Buttermilk (custard) Pie

When I started dating my husband Todd and we were getting to know one another and sharing our likes and dislikes,he told me his favorite pie in the whole world was buttermilk! Now, I love pie....in fact I will chose pie over cake any day! But I never heard of buttermilk pie and frankly it sounded disgusting! On our first Christmas married he asked me to make one! I found this recipe on the net and set out to make it just for him, with no intentions on trying a bite! Well, after it was cooking in the oven, it started to fill the house with the most amazing sweet aroma! My mouth was watering, but I wasn't going to admit that it smelled like heaven!! So after I pulled it out and let it cool,I cut a piece for him....then he informed me he likes his the next day, ice cold from the fridge! What to do?? So I told him ,just to try it to see if I made it right....he loved it! So,I gave in... cause' it really smelled so good! I loved it! Now fast forward to 8 years later and I make it every year....sometimes for Thanksgiving and Christmas! I have come to love this recipe and it's super easy too! If you think it sounds gross.....just call it custard pie instead....that's what it reminds me of anyways! Enjoy and thanks for stopping by....please leave me a comment if you make it and let me know how you liked it! Have a great weekend!

Buttermilk (Custard) Pie:

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened....I put mine in the microwave for a little ....just til' it starts to melt)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tsp. flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • about 1 tsp. of nutmeg ( my jar has holes in it....so I just use that to sprinkle!)
  • 1 deep dish pie shell

Preheat oven to 350.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients together and mix well. Pour into unbaked pie shell and then sprinkle the top with nutmeg! Bake for about an hour or until top is golden brown. Let cool for about an hour before slicing if you like it warm,or you can wrap with foil and put in fridge for the next day! Serve with full glass of milk! Enjoy!!

Homemade Vanilla Cinnamon Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

I'm going to share with you this cake recipe I made today for my son's birthday. He wanted me to make him a cinnamon cake. Well, the kind from a box are good but....they crumble easy. So,I searched the Internet and found this recipe...I did tweak it a bit. He loves cream cheese anything so,I knew he would love the icing! The cake came out great! But it was heavy, not light like most of the cakes I make. The icing was really good, very rich though. But I didn't like the two together!! I know sounds crazy, but the cake was good just by itself and the icing I think would be better on a different cake!?!!?I don't know, maybe I'm just weird! But the kids really liked it,only one child couldn't eat it all because he said it was too rich. I think I will play around in the future to see if I can lighten it up a bit! Anyways hope you enjoy!! Please leave me a comment and let me know how you like it!! Thanks for stopping by!

Vanilla Cinnamon Cake

4 eggs,
2 sticks of butter (softened)
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2-4 tablespoons cinnamon (depending on your taste,I used 4 tbls. !)
1 1/2 cups milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In a bowl mix together the following ingredients:
eggs
butter (softened)
sugar
Cream together well, then add the rest of the ingredients.Pour into cake pan, bake for 40-50 minutes in 350 degree oven (I started checking mine at 35 min).

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing

3-6 oz. cream cheese (softened) ...(depending on your taste,I used the whole block!)
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. milk

1-2 tsp. cinnamon (depending on your taste....I used 2 tsp.)
1 cup sugar (I used confectioner's,but the recipe just said sugar...mine came out good!)
Cream together softened cream cheese and butter.
Then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Spread on cooled cake.(My cake was still slightly warm!)

My Baby Boy is 17 today!

I feel so old!! My oldest child is 17 today and I can't believe it!! Where does the time go?? He wanted a cinnamon cake,so I found a recipe that I'm going to try. I've always used boxed cakes, so this will be my first time to make one from scratch.I'm also going to make a cream cheese icing...also from scratch! He wanted homemade chicken fried steak. I make that about once a year....it makes a mess and it takes awhile to get the smell of grease from your house! So,I bought some Tyson Chicken Fried Steak patties to cook in the oven....hope he doesn't mind!! But maybe when it's covered with gravy and with mashed potatoes on the side....he won't notice!! ;) Well, I'm off to do my chores and get cookin'!! Have a great day and thanks for stoppin' by!!

Twilight card

Hello peeps! A quick post today because Jonathan is home today from school. He's been throwing up and having the dreaded *D* word! But he seems to be feeling alot better and is hungry! He never has run any fever,so I think he will be just fine! Just hope it's not contagious!

Anyways,Calin will be 17 tomorrow!! I still can't believe it!! Since he loves twilight,I decided that it would make a perfect card! I printed an image off my computer and just colored it in using my pastel chalks! I hope he likes it! It's a little Gothic for my taste, but that's what's the in thing for teens nowadays! I did stamp a little on the background and on the bottom of the card (kinda hard to see!). Jonathan wanted to make his own for him....I like his too! Thanks for stopping by!
